UNDER THE STARS – GRAND STAIRCASE ESCALANTE
This past summer, Sam and I held our third Ember and Solis retreat in the deserts of Utah. We chose Yonder Escalante as our home base – a camp ground nestled between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks. Along with twelve other women we collaborated, talked, laughed, and got to know each other on a distinctly deeper level. I feel we all came away feeling rejuvenated and more focused on each of our individual creative endeavors.

We arrived to Yonder early in the day and spent some time exploring the grounds while we waited for the rest of the attendees to arrive. We rented some cabins and vintage Airstreams for sleep and relaxation at the end of the day. Another super neat feature of the grounds is the drive-in theater complete with classic cars to sit in and watch movies. Our first evening was spent getting to know one another and sharing a delicious meal that was cooked over an open campfire.
The second day was dedicated to exploring the red rocks, pink cliffs, and endless vistas of Bryce Canyon National Park in southeastern Utah. If you've never been there, it truly is one of the most magnificent places in the United States. The way the sun reflects off the red towering hoodoos is magical. While we toured the park, the group took breaks to enjoy the views and do some painting with the watercolor kits provided for attendees.
